Frequently asked questions

Does Formenzo issue the residence visa itself?

No. The residence visa is issued by the federal General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs of the relevant emirate, or by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, depending on the route. Formenzo coordinates the document pack and works with the free-zone account manager who submits to the federal authority; the issuance decision sits with the authority.

How long does the full visa flow take?

Indicative ranges of two to six weeks circulate in the market, but no authority publishes a binding service-level agreement for foreign-founder visa files. The total elapsed time depends on the route choice (status change versus exit-and-re-enter), the workload at the issuing authority, the medical and EID centre throughput, and whether the file triggers any enhanced review. Founders should plan a buffer rather than count on the fast path.

Can I do the medical and biometrics on the same day?

In some cases yes, particularly where the founder has used a fast-track service at the medical centre. In most cases the medical and the Emirates-ID biometrics are taken at separate appointments on consecutive days. The free-zone account manager will sequence the appointments; the founder should not assume a single-day completion unless the manager confirms it.

What happens if I fail the medical test?

A positive result on a screened condition leads to the visa being declined. The federal medical authority and federal immigration communicate the outcome formally; the founder should follow the formal channels for any subsequent steps. Formenzo does not have visibility into individual medical results and would not be the right channel for medical advice.

Does a UAE residence visa make me a UAE tax resident?

Not automatically. UAE tax residence is determined by the Federal Tax Authority's criteria, which include a 183-day physical-presence test and other tests; holding a UAE residence visa is one factor but is not by itself sufficient. Founders who want a UAE tax-residence certificate apply for it separately through the Federal Tax Authority and should consult their own tax adviser.

If I do not use all my visa slots, do I lose them?

Unused slots typically remain available for the duration of the licence period; they do not expire mid-cycle. A founder who allocates two of four slots in year one can still allocate the remaining two later. The binding position is whatever the free-zone authority's package terms specify; on the live route check the slot count is shown for the package selected.

Can I work for another UAE employer on my own free-zone visa?

The default is no. A residence visa sponsored by your own free-zone company is tied to that company; taking outside paid work for a UAE employer typically requires either an additional authorisation (part-time work permit, where eligible) or a transfer of sponsorship. Founders considering hybrid arrangements should consult an immigration specialist before assuming the default route works.

Can Formenzo guarantee my visa will be approved?

No. Final authority approval, visa quota and bank acceptance are not guaranteed. Any advisor who promises a guaranteed visa outcome is misrepresenting how the federal-immigration system works. What Formenzo can do is coordinate the document pack cleanly so the application enters the system in the form the authority expects, and surface status updates through the case timeline.
